HTP1 Rental FAQs
-
The machine pumps water through a cuff at a controlled temperature to help reduce pain, swelling and bruising. As the temperature is regulated (unlike ice based treatments) it can be used for as long as desired, with many people post-operatively using almost continuously in their first few days at home.
-
Recovery times differ from patient to patient and it can be hard to know how long to book your machine for. From our experience the average rentals are: Facial Rental – 1 – 2 Weeks, Orthopaedic Rental – 2 – 4 Weeks. You can always extend the rental should you wish to. The shortest rental period is 1 week.
-
The recommended temperature range for optimum reduction of swelling and bruising is: Facial – 16°C – 19°C, Knee, Foot, Hip, Shoulder: 15°C – 18°C

All our deliveries are booked with DPD on a morning delivery. Someone will need to be in to receive the delivery on the selected delivery day. If there is nobody at the delivery address the machine is likely to be taken to a local shop where it will be available for collection the following day. Due to the value of the machine we do not recommend asking the courier to ‘leave in a safe place.’
We will contact you by email a few days before your rental finishes to confirm whether you would like us to collect the device or extend the rental. We will then book the collection from your chosen address with DPD. We can usually choose either a morning or afternoon slot for the collection.
-
We recommend booking your rental at least one week in advance but we can deliver the equipment for the next working day as long as we receive the booking before midday. The earliest delivery time for orders made after midday would be 2 working days. Any orders made between midday Friday and midday Monday would have Tuesday as the earliest delivery day.
-
We normally recommend having your machine delivered the day after your procedure if possible. This is to give you the longest possible amount of time with the equipment whilst also making sure you have it for the day that you are discharged from hospital. We can deliver the machine before your procedure but the rental will start from the delivery date.

Your rental can be moved, postponed or cancelled free of charge up to midday the working day before it is due to be delivered. The machine will be in transit between midday the working day before it is delivered and the delivery day so any changes made after this time will incur half the delivery & collection fee (£17.50). If the machine has been delivered and you need to cancel the rental as long as we are told within 24 hours of delivery we can arrange to collect the machine and refund you for everything except for the £35 delivery and collection fee.

If you have been told that you will be using a Hilotherm device in hospital they will provide you with a cuff. These cuffs are single patient use and you will be able to take it home with you as the hospital will not be able to reuse it. This will save you having to purchase a cuff from us.
If the hospital you are attending is not planning on using a Hilotherm device you will have to purchase a cuff separately.
We recommend that if you are in any doubt then you should buy a cuff. If you return the cuff to us unopened we will refund you for it.
We will ask you to provide us with the hospital and type of procedure you are having at checkout as this helps us to identify any potential issues. -
We recommend the following cuffs for procedures:
Maxillofacial (jaw) surgery – Lower face mask with link
Knee surgery – Knee cuff
Face or neck lift – Lower face mask without link
Blepharoplasty – Open eye cuff
Rhinoplasty – Nose cuff
Breast surgery – Hilobreast cuff
Shoulder surgery – Trapezoidal cuff
Hip surgery – Trapezoidal cuff
Foot surgery – Foot cuff
ChemoCare FAQs
-
The treatment is used to prevent chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy & hand/foot syndrome. These side effects are common with certain chemotherapy drugs. Peripheral neuropathy can cause pain, tingling and numbness in the hands and feet making every day tasks difficult. Hand/foot syndrome side effects include redness, swelling and blistering of the skin and peeling of nails. Hilotherm ChemoCare CIPN helps to prevent these side effects by cooling the hands and feet during chemotherapy.
-
The treatment works by cooling the hand and feet before & during intravenous chemotherapy. Drug regimes that are not administered intravenously are not suitable for Hilotherm ChemoCare CIPN. Certain chemotherapy drugs are more likely than others to cause CIPN symptoms. The majority of clinical studies have been carried out with patients on taxane-based treatments such as paclitaxel and docetaxel and with oxaliplatin patients. This is not an exclusive list. Please talk to your oncology team to help understand the likelihood of CIPN symptoms with your specific drug regime. Feel free to contact us or ask your oncology team to contact us if you would like to discuss further.
-
Hilotherm ChemoCare CIPN needs to be administered at the same time as intravenous chemotherapy. For this reason it is essential that the medical team involved in your care are involved in the process of obtaining the treatment. We typically work directly with the hospitals to provide this treatment to patients. If you would like to check if anyone in your local area provides Hilotherm ChemoCare CIPN or you would like us to contact your medical team to see if it is possible to provide access to this treatment, please contact our offices. Unfortunately patient direct rentals are not normally possible.
-
Hilotherm ChemoCare CIPN works by reducing the skin temperature of the hands and feet. Uninterrupted cooling (with no breaks) is essential for 30 minutes before chemotherapy starts. In most circumstances this time can be used by the medical team for pre meds and will not add significant additional time to your treatment time. Cooling is needed throughout chemotherapy (short breaks are possible but these should be kept to a minimum). Some centres stop cooling when chemotherapy stops whereas some choose to cool for 30 minutes post-chemotherapy. If you start showing signs of CIPN we recommend increasing the post-chemotherapy cooling time by 30 minutes. Hilotherm should ideally be used for all treatment cycles.
-
It is possible to start using Hilotherm ChemoCare CIPN part way through your treatment cycles. Research has shown that it can help to prevent further escalation of CIPN symptoms and also improve existing CIPN symptoms over time. It is important to make a decision to start using Hilotherm as soon as possible, to use with the increased post-chemotherapy cooling time and to use for every subsequent cycle. Unfortunately once patients have finished their chemotherapy treatment there is nothing further Hilotherm can do to help improve symptoms.
-
Yes, Hilotherm ChemoCare CIPN can be used in conjunction with Hilotherm ChemoCare CIA scalp cooling devices or other types of scalp cooling.
-

Cryoglobulinemia, cold hemagglutination, cold urticaria/cold contact urticaria by histamine release, functional circulatory disorders (i.e. Raynaud's disease) severe arterial occlusive disease, pronounced sensitivity disorders and trophic tissue lesions.
